Stories that Inspire and Transform
The poems, narratives, and drawings included in this book are expressions of freedom from a group of children, adolescents, and young people who have directly experienced the impact of the armed conflict in its various forms. Their reality is that of many children and young people in Colombia who, in regions like Catatumbo, continue to be subjected to the rules and ways of life imposed by armed groups that remain or have arrived in the territory after the signing of agreements and the demobilization of the FARC-EP.
"‘They gave me a hand, they took the skin’ is the expression of one of the authors who, through her poem, transports us to lived situations. ‘I couldn’t play with dolls, only with a rifle, I didn’t have friends because you scared them…’"
Another one expresses herself through words turned into a poem, powerful words that reflect the mark that abandonment and war have left on their lives. But they are also expressions of hope, songs to life and love, in which even death is seen as ‘the perfect state of the soul’.
The authors of these texts make poetry a form of denunciation, not as a legitimate claim, but as a testimony of the situations that many children and adolescents have lived and are living. It is a call to take their truth into account in the construction of memory.
