The semi-annual report that we have titled The Virus of Violence aims to provide analytical elements on the attacks against people who defend human rights, based on the convergence of the three previously mentioned situations during the period. It begins with a brief tribute to the 95 individuals killed during the first half of 2020, seeking to recognize the struggles of these social leaders. The first chapter, titled Covering the mouthplaces the reflection of the context in different aspects related to the increase in militarization in the territories; the second one is called Wash your hands wellRefers to the major pending issues the National Government has with social leaders and communities, aiming to provide the necessary guarantees for the exercise of human rights.
The third chapter Raise your voice to recover oxygen The fourth chapter provides an analysis of information gathered by the Information System on Aggressions against Human Rights Defenders (SIADDHH) from the Program; data that highlights the severity of the violence situation, the increasing difficulty in identifying those responsible, trends related to the types of leadership targeted, territorial locations, and the specific attacks on female social leaders.
